Rhapsody in blue

Rhapsody in blue

The “Parco dei Principi” hotel in Sorrento, Italy,  was designed 1960 by Gio Ponti and is today in a very good condition. Its bright blue furnishing, its amazing views over the sea and the exotic garden fascinated us.

The building is a wonderful exhibition of creativity: Ponti designed 30 different white and blue patterns for 20×20 cm tiles (by the Salerno factory D’Agostino) for different places of the hotel´s floors, the ceramic wall tiles in the lobby were custom made by sculptor Fausto Melotti,  Carlo de Carli 802 chair, Ico and Luisa Parisi´s 865 chair and couch (all by Cassina) are part of its furnishing. The restaurant is equipped with the armless seating 646  designed by Ponti and the bedrooms with the “Superleggera”.

Since its 50 anniversary is an exhibition at the hall showing original documentation and architectural drawings from Ponti.
